The beauty industry is constantly evolving, and keeping up with what’s new can keep your clients coming back

2024 was a great year for medical aesthetics. Driven by a constant push for innovation, the industry hit a new peak, growing 2% to reach a total value of $17.5 billion. Not too shabby — but that’s old news. It’s 2025 now, which means it’s time to set your sights on even higher peaks. To reach them, you’ll need to stay one step ahead of what your clients want from your medspa, whether that means AI-assisted booking, innovative rejuvenation treatments, or the latest in hangover cures. Here are the trends to watch as you charge into 2025.

Elevating the client experience with AI

It’s the phrase on everybody’s lips: artificial intelligence. New use cases for AI seem to pop up every day, and every industry is anxious to see how it can benefit their work. In the beauty industry, that benefit begins at the booking stage. Natural language processing (NLP) can power chatbots that speak like regular people. If you add one to your website, clients can speak in plain language to book their appointments, whether your medspa is open or not. Smart booking software can even recommend optimal booking times, keeping clients happy and your schedule running at peak efficiency.

Every client has unique needs, and finding them the right treatment is just part of the puzzle. To inspire true loyalty, you need to demonstrate that you understand them. That’s not easy when your practice sees hundreds of clients each month — but what if it could be? Cutting-edge AI technology can take in a client’s treatment and purchase history, analyze the data, and produce a bespoke list of product recommendations personalized to their needs. Combine that with expert insight from your providers, and you can make every client feel uniquely understood and catered to.

Achieving lasting results with advanced treatments

Injections are still the most popular aesthetic procedure around, but treatments are growing more advanced every day. At the same time, less invasive treatments continue to gain ground as patients look for ways to rejuvenate their skin without breaking it.

Natural fillers

Today’s medspa clients are tired of the sagging, stretched-out look that can come with improper filler use. Like consumers in nearly every sector, they want a healthier, more natural alternative. More and more, medspas are meeting that demand with platelet-rich fibrin (PRF). To perform a PRF treatment, a provider draws a small amount of blood from the client and then spins it in a centrifuge to isolate growth factors and stem cells. The provider then injects the result back into the patient.

PRF is still a relatively new treatment, and some experts don’t recommend it as a straight-up substitute for hyaluronic acid filler. But the potential for a more natural injectable has clients excited, especially because providers can apply PRF to the undereye area, the perioral area, and the brow region — places that fillers and biostimulators often can’t go.

Laser treatment

Is there anything more high-tech than lasers? Laser treatments use short, concentrated beams of light to vaporize the top layers of skin and heat the layers underneath. The vaporizing clears away irregularities, while the heating helps to stimulate the growth of collagen. Clients love lasers because they don’t involve any scary needles, they achieve lasting results, and they do it all without a long recovery time. That’s part of why spending on this technology reached $3.08 billion in 2023, putting it hot on the heels of dermal fillers at $3.18 billion.

Microneedling

Microneedling uses a small amount of damage to create a large amount of results. Tiny needles cause microinjuries in cells, which triggers the cell to heal itself, producing more collagen and elastin that help to eliminate wrinkles, enlarged pores, and acne scars. Keep the treatment up, and it can help to keep skin firm, smooth, and youthful.

Microneedling goes deeper into the skin than microdermabrasion (which may lead to improved results), but it’s not typically enough to draw blood.

Giving clients a boost with IV therapy

For clients looking for immediate results, it’s hard to beat IV therapy. Most IV treatments use a blend of vitamins and minerals, but it’s not unusual to see them mixed with pain relievers or anti-nausea drugs to achieve specific effects (goodbye, hangovers). Those customizations even extend into aesthetic treatments, aiming for healthier skin and hair. Clients often report feeling revitalized just a few minutes into treatment, and those good vibes can last for several days.

Not only do clients love IV therapy, but it’s great business for medspas. The IV itself is a high-margin, low-effort treatment. Plus, since it’s so hands-off for the provider, it’s easy to package it alongside other treatments they can perform simultaneously. It’s no wonder IV therapy is expected to hit a market value of $4.23 billion by 2030.

Powering weight loss with GLP-1 treatment

Wegovy, Ozempic, Rybelsus — as soon as these drugs hit the market, they set off a firestorm of demand. All three are glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists, meaning they mimic a hormone that, among other things, slows the emptying of the stomach and increases the sensation of fullness after eating. Although many were originally designed to treat obesity and Type 2 diabetes, they’ve become hugely popular as weight loss aids.

GLP-1 prescriptions have become a major competitive advantage for medspas. Practices that offer these prescriptions saw an average revenue increase of 9% in 2024 compared to a 2% decline at practices that didn’t. And GLP-1 treatments don’t just bring in revenue — they bring in clients. Around 40% of GLP-1 patients at medspas had never received treatment there before.

The opportunities around GLP-1 are incredibly exciting, but it’s worth taking the time to adopt them correctly. Regulations are still in flux, with both the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and state regulators creating new policies all the time. Make sure you administer these treatments responsibly.

With all these new treatments and technologies, there’s never been a more exciting time to be  in the medspa industry. By investing in the right tools and tapping into the right trends, you can ensure your business stays booming for the rest of 2025.
